A Message from HCA President Al Cardillo

Welcome to HCA’s first e-newsletter for the state Legislature and staff. Its purpose is to give you a glance of our “watch” legislation, new innovations, upcoming events and trends in the home care, hospice and Managed Long Term Care sectors.

Why is this important?

Home care, hospice and MLTC provide vital services and supports to over 400,000 New Yorkers, including your constituents.

There are a lot of complex dynamics happening in the community-based sector, from workforce shortages to funding needs, infrastructure and IT support and more. We’ll be bringing these vital issues to your attention during the state budget and legislative session starting in 2019, but we also want you to know about some of the promising and exciting developments in our field, such as HCA’s Stop Sepsis at Home initiative, new collaborative models for home care to work efficiently with other settings, and more.

I outlined some of these important topics already in a letter that your office should have received in late November. If not, you can read the letter here.

Our plan is to send you this e-newsletter on the last Wednesday of each month, though we decided to reach you a bit earlier for our inaugural issue, given the upcoming holidays and preparation work you are surely doing to gear up for session in January.

If you have any questions or needs, don’t hesitate to contact me at acardillo@hcanys.org.
