September 2020 Capitol Report: COVID Hearings, Sepsis Month, Collaborations and Workforce

Situation Report | October 5, 2020

In the September 2020 edition of HCA’s Capitol Report newsletter, HCA sums up testimony delivered by HCA President Al Cardillo during a legislative hearing on COVID-19, highlighting home care’s response to patients’ needs, as well as systemic challenges that have impeded this vital work.

We also highlight Sepsis Awareness Month, including an HCA interview on WNYT NewChannel 13’s Health Beat program, plus HCA’s work to promote pre- and post-acute partnerships among hospitals and home care as part of our “Statewide Hospital-Home Care Collaborative for COVID-19 and Beyond.”

In addition, a recent report on home care shortages helps explain the importance of reforms to help build capacity in the current pandemic, including a recent move by the state Department of Health to permit an online component to aide training programs.
