Free Training Program on Home Care and COVID-19 Testing Extended Several Months

Situation Report | July 13, 2020

HCA’s grant-funded program to train home care and hospice clinicians on COVID-19 testing in the home care setting has been extended through year’s end.

Under a grant from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, HCA has been working with partners at the Iroquois Healthcare Alliance (IHA) and Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) to deliver this on-demand, web-based training for home health and hospice RNs and other personnel.

Given the urgent need for continued training in home care, the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation has extended this grant allowing the training to continue at least through December 31.

HCS Announcement by DOH

The importance of this training is underscored by a recent notice from the state Department of Health through its Health Commerce System (HCS) informing all home care and hospice providers about the training.

Testing in the home care setting allows agencies to leverage your own personnel’s clinical expertise to conduct testing. You can also more closely and seamlessly pre-screen and monitor the infection status of patients and staff to keep both safe. Some organizations are even creating new business opportunities for testing patients at home on behalf of physician practices, hospitals, senior living communities, and other partners.
