HCA to Testify Today at Legislative Hearing on COVID-19 and Long Term Care

At the first hearing — for New York City, Westchester and Long Island last week — lawmakers raised numerous questions focused on nursing home fatality rates, how the data were represented, nursing home visitation policies, and more.

Today’s hearing is for upstate New York and offers an opportunity for HCA to present a home care perspective alongside association colleagues who are also testifying.

In his testimony, HCA President Al Cardillo will chronicle the heroic work of home care in the pandemic, the many stresses and challenges faced by the home care system, needed changes to support home care, and opportunity areas for leveraging home care supports.

The hearing is being overseen by the Senate’s and Assembly’s respective committees on Health and Aging as well as the Senate Standing Committee on Investigations and Government Operations and the Assembly Standing Committee on Oversight, Analysis and Investigation.

Lawmakers are seeking input from stakeholders across the state related to distribution of medical supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE), safety inspections and enforcement during the state of emergency as well as the practices and procedures.

Written testimony is due at a later date, at which time HCA will share our remarks with the membership.
