The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has instructed Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) such as National Government Services (NGS) to correct Medicare home health claims that were paid based on incorrect Health Insurance Prospective Payment System (HIPPS) codes in the following circumstances:
- Dates spanning January 1, 2020 are recoded by Medicare systems.
- From dates after January 1, 2020 are submitted with institutional occurrence codes and are recoded due to period timing.
These errors will be corrected by May 4, 2020. NGS will adjust the claims to correct payment errors. Home health agencies do not need to take any action.
