The Statewide Call to Action: All Sector Sepsis Summit

Situation Report | May 23, 2022

Sepsis is a medical emergency.

Sepsis impacts individuals across the entire continuum of care, with 80-90% of sepsis related infections occurring in home and community. CMS projected-Medicare costs for sepsis admissions to hospitals and nursing homes are $62 billion, for 2019 alone.

Sepsis deaths can be substantially preventable, but the solution requires participation and collaboration across the entire health care system.

New York is implementing pace-setting policies and innovations in combatting sepsis:  Hospitals have implemented NY’s “Rory’s Regulations” and sepsis protocols, schools have implemented NY’s “Rory’s Law” (both led by ENDSEPSIS – The Legacy of Rory Staunton); home care agencies have implemented the Home Care Association of New York State’s (HCA) home care sepsis screening and intervention tool and protocol, assisted by Sepsis Alliance and ENDSEPSIS; Sepsis Alliance is providing templates for sepsis education and intervention across sectors and practice disciplines, and is now launching the Sepsis Innovations Collaborative; EMS providers are guided by sepsis collaborative protocol; and more. HCA and 4 major health systems with pediatric home care programming in New York State are currently beta testing a first-of-a kind tool for pediatric sepsis screening and intervention in home care.

HCA has been awarded a statewide grant by the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to Improve Sepsis Prevention, Screening and Intervention in the Community and Across the Continuum, which is providing support for expanded sepsis efforts, including this major statewide summit.  Join HCA, ENDSEPSIS, Sepsis Alliance, IPRO, and partners across the continuum in the major collaborative discussion on sepsis.

Hear the developments and vision of the state, national and industry experts. Learn the latest facts.  Participate in discussion of sepsis as it relates to every sector, sepsis in special needs populations, and sepsis collaborative strategies and vision.

Be part of this summit and its follow-up efforts to promote effective sepsis response engaging all system sectors to work together, quickly, efficiently, fully informed and synchronized to mitigate the deadly risk of sepsis.

Stay tuned for the coming agenda and speaker details.
