VNSNY to Participate in Medicare Advantage VBID Hospice Benefit Demonstration Model

Situation Report | September 28, 2020

The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released a list of plans that will be participating in the Medicare Advantage Value-based Insurance Design (VBID) Model for Calendar Year (CY) 2021, including a Hospice Benefit Component.

HCA member VNSNY is one of the entities participating that also includes nine Medicare Advantage plans, through 53 Plan Benefit Packages (PBPs), in the Hospice Benefit Component of the VBID Model starting in January. These PBPs will test the Hospice Benefit Component in service areas that cover 206 counties.

CMS is expected to issue additional technical details in the near future. The list of participating plans is available on the CMS website under CY 2021 Materials. CMS says it intends to run the hospice component in CY 2022 as well.

HCA will update the membership as additional information becomes available.
