Workers’ Compensation Changes Coming

The New York State Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) has upgraded to Release 3.1 of the International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions’ (IAIABC) Claims Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

Also announced are newly authorized providers to treat injured workers.

EDI upgrade

According to WCB, version 3.1 introduces new data reporting elements, which will improve accident and indemnity reporting related to injured worker claims.

The eClaims EDI R3.1 Requirement Tables and Implementation Guide were published on the Board’s eClaims website on March 31, 2020.

The implementation date for mandatory version 3.1 reporting is targeted for March 15, 2021.

Newly Authorized Health Care Providers 

As of July 2020, the WCB has a list of newly authorized providers to treat injured workers and/or perform independent medical examinations within the workers’ compensation system.

Authorized acupuncturists, nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, physician assistants, physical therapists and occupational therapists may treat injured workers but may not perform independent medical examinations.
