Guidance Issued on COVID-19 Testing Requirements for SNFs and ACFs, Including Home Care ‘Contract’ Staff

Situation Report | February 8, 2021

On February 1, the state Department of Health (DOH) posted guidance on the COVID-19 testing requirements for nursing homes and adult care facilities (ACFs).

As a follow up to a January 7, 2021 guidance, DOH reminds nursing homes in the February 1 guidance that they are obligated to test or arrange for the testing twice weekly of all personnel, including all employees, per-diem staff, contract staff, medical staff, operators, administrators, and volunteers.

The ACF guidance reminds providers that they are required to test or arrange for the testing of all personnel for COVID-19 once per week. Personnel include all employees, per diem staff, contract staff, medical staff, operators, administrators, and volunteers.

In previous instructions, DOH has stated that contracted personnel included home care and hospice staff.
