HCA Grant Supported Translation Service Available for Home Care Recipients

The Home Care Association of New York State Education and Research (HCA E&R) has been awarded funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to identify and address health disparities in populations receiving health care in homes and community-based services (HCBS) statewide.

Through this initiative, HCA has partnered with Nascentia Health to provide point-of-service translation services for home care patients. We might have a slot for you to get involved!

In NYS, 2.3 million people have limited English proficiency. If the home care provider is not fluent in the patient’s native language, this poses a barrier for patients to receive appropriate medical care and accurate information. HCA’s translation service pilot program creates a pathway for home care recipients to have their needs met, and for providers to be able to accurately communicate important information.

This over-the-phone translation service is currently being piloted in a few agencies across NYS. The patient is connected to a live translator who then directly communicates with the patient and provider.

Please take a few minutes to fill out this short survey to help inform HCA’s translation services initiative.

Please reach out to Taylor Perre, Senior Associate for Public Health and Policy, tperre@hcanys.org for more information on how to get your agency involved.
