Health Care Worker Bonus Questions Updated

The Healthcare Worker Bonus (HWB) Program has updated the Frequently Asked Questions (NYS HWB Program FAQ) on the state Department of Health (DOH) website. Qualified employers are encouraged to routinely review these resources for the latest information.  

Updated guidance for Education Sector Employers has been published and includes guidance on applicable titles, claiming, registration, and additional information specific to the education sector.  

An additional new question on page 22 is: 

  1. If an employee retires, are they entitled to a bonus payment?
  2. An employee retirement is analogous to the employee quitting or leaving their employer. See the above table for guidance on whether the employee is entitled to the bonus payment depending upon when they separated from the employer.

The second Vesting Period started October 1 so that employers can submit bonus information for employees who worked from April 1, 2022 to September 30, 2022.  Information can be submitted from October 1 to October 31, 2022. 

DOH is also allowing employers to submit bonus information for employees who worked from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 (first Vesting Period) during the second Vesting Period as some entities encountered problems in submitting information during the first Vesting Period.
