Infection Prevention and Control: An Initiatives for COVID-19 and Beyond

HCA E&R was awarded funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to train and inform providers regarding COVID-19 in-home testing.

A COVID-19 Emergency Initiative

“Best Clinical and Operational Practices in COVID-19 and Beyond” is a complimentary learning series curated by HCA E&R. This learning series provides best-practices including care protocols to infection control, psychosocial supports for workers, recruitment, retention, and more. This 6-chapter program is designed to help you and your staff provide the best possible care while maximizing the supportive role of home care and hospice in the public health response to COVID-19 and on a lasting basis.

The 6-chapter learning series is available on-demand on HCA’s LMS.

Infection Prevention and Control

As the COVID-19 pandemic progressed, the need for infection prevention and control education and resources for providers, patients, caregivers, and families became evident. COVID-19 is among the long list of infections that if untreated, can lead to sepsis. To further provider, patient, family, and caregiver awareness and knowledge related to infections and sepsis, HCA E&R partnered with Sepsis Alliance and industry experts to develop an educational module, policy guide for agency adoption, and a resource toolkit for provider and patient use.

The Training

HCA E&R in partnership with Sepsis Alliance, developed an Infection Prevention and Control Teaching for Patients and Families, a training for home care providers to review top infections prevalent in home care and tips for how to approach patients and families with important information regarding their risk for infection and treatment options.

The Policy Template

HCA E&R developed a policy guide and best practices for CHHAs, LHCSAs, and Hospice agencies. When reviewing policies and procedures related to infection prevention and control, use this resource to be sure that your policy contains the requirements, and review the best practices to ensure a well-rounded policy.

The Resource Toolkit

HCA E&R in partnership with Sepsis Alliance and clinical experts developed a resource toolkit containing provider focused resources and patient education materials. In the toolkit, find infection prevention and control infographics and supplemental educational resources related to the most common infections in home care, prevention, the spread of germs, and additional foundational resources.
