Moving From Diversity to Inclusion: How to Change Our Fears and Perceptions About Disabilities and Overcome Our Own Inner Challenges

Moving From Diversity to Inclusion: How to Change Our Fears and Perceptions About Disabilities and Overcome Our Own Inner Challenges
April 22, 2024
Virtual | 1-2 PM

As health care organizations work to become more diverse and have implemented diversity plans, oftentimes these plans do not include everyone. How many times have we seen or experienced discussions of diversity including minority groups such as women, different races, and different sexual orientations, but there is little or no discussion of including persons with disabilities?

Join Michael Hingson for a virtual talk showing us how diversity alone is not enough, and why it’s time to move to real inclusion. Mike happens to be blind, is a survivor of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, a number one New York Times best-selling author, has successfully worked in sales, management, held leadership positions, and is an entrepreneur. Mike will share stories and lessons learned from his own life around real inclusion in today’s world and why it is so crucial to include disabilities in our current discussions around diversity. Mike reminds us that, in an instant, any one of us can unexpectedly join the ranks of persons with disabilities.

The audience will learn:

  • how to gain loyal and hard-working employees and how to help make the existing workforce more welcoming to those who are different than them;
  • examples of how developing accessible technologies can help individuals with disabilities move toward a more inclusive existence;
  • how easy it can be to make jobs more accessible by changing our mindset and incorporating a few simple rules when designing websites and choosing what devices we use;
  • how the “fear of difference” has built barriers we take for granted today, and why and how to break them down; and the value of inclusion.

Cost: $69.00
