On December 22, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the Nurses For Our Future Scholarship. This scholarship program will cover tuition costs for 1,000 new or current healthcare workers to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) at a two- or four-year New York State university or public college.
Governor Hochul stated that the scholarship will offer an important opportunity for the next generation of nurses to receive a top-tier education and ensure they are prepared to help protect their fellow New Yorkers when they are needed the most.
Nurses For Our Future Scholarship will award:
- 500 scholarships for out-of-state licensed nurses who relocate and practice in New York State to earn a BSN;
- 250 scholarships for New York State licensed nurses to earn a BSN; and
- 250 scholarships for New York State residents newly seeking an ADN.
Scholarships will cover the tuition costs charged by the university or public college for four full-time semesters and will be pro-rated for recipients attending part-time. Scholarships will not cover costs of attendance, room-and-board, fees or other expenses.
This effort will aid nursing recruitment, retention and incentivize health care workers to advance their education. With that, HCA encourages all home care and hospice providers to promote the Nurses For Our Future Scholarship program to eligible candidates.
