Reminder on NYC Medical Surge Staffing Help

Situation Report | November 30, 2020

HCA reminds members serving New York City (NYC) that NYC Emergency Management has set up a Medical Surge Staffing Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) to assist home care and other health care providers with their COVID-19 surge staffing plans.

Click here and look under “COVID-19 Surge Staffing Group Purchasing Organization (GPO)” for the most current list of participating GPO vendors and additional documents, such as FAQs and a GPO informational overview.

The GPO was set up to assist facilities with their COVID-19 response and will be available until June of 2021 for all hazards resulting in clinical/non-clinical surge staffing shortages (e.g., coastal storm, COVID-19, cold and flu, biomedical).

Each health care facility is responsible for creating its own contract vendors. Facilities are encouraged to do so before future waves of COVID-19.

NYC Emergency Management serves as the vendor manager for the GPO and retains records of the master agreement.

Some of the available staff include RNs, LPNs, respiratory therapists, certified nursing assistants, MDs, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and others. While home care aides are not included, agencies creating a contract can choose to include other staffing specialties as needed for their agency, outside the already identified specialties.
