About

The New York City (NYC) Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) has engaged with the NYC home care sector via state home care associations to enhance emergency preparedness capabilities, including situational awareness, education, and training. Over the past six years, the following gaps were identified within the home care sector:

  • the home care sector has not had an opportunity for formal inclusion in the New York City Health Care Coalition (NYCHCC);
  • has decentralized staff and patients which require additional planning and technical assistance for preparedness and response;
  • lacks guidance and resources related to emergency preparedness and response; and
  • has less access to respiratory protection resources than other sectors of long‐term care (LTC) and health care overall in NYC.

Under this grant period (July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024), HCA Education and Research (E&R) will carry out specific activities that will enhance home care’s emergency preparedness planning related to capabilities outlined by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) and the Healthcare Preparedness Program (HPP).
