HCANYS Mission
Overview
Every day and in every region of the State, a continuum of care has been keeping vulnerable New Yorkers in their homes, out of overburdened hospitals and nursing facilities, saving valuable state and federal healthcare dollars in the process. Ranging from clinically complex, professional nursing and therapies to long-term support services for vulnerable individuals across the spectrum of care, from maternal and infant cases to older adults, persons with disabilities, the chronically ill, and individuals with terminal illness.
For 45 years, the Home Care Association of New York State (HCANYS) has been a steadfast, trusted leader in this field, navigating New York’s home healthcare and hospice industry through systemic development and expansion, regulatory and statutory changes to structure and financing, evolving leadership at the state and federal level, and more— ensuring access to and delivery of quality, innovative care to patients throughout the State, our perennial North Star.

HCANYS was established in 1978 with a goal of further developing and advocating for the field of service delivery in the home, and providing information to help improve the development, availability, accessibility and quality of home care services.

Representing hundreds of dedicated organizations and thousands of staff committed to the delivery of healthcare and support services in homes and communities across all regions of New York State, HCANYS brings unmatched insight and depth of knowledge to a complex and evolving landscape though our staff with more than 150 combined years of experience in the field.
This healthcare sector has encountered several distinct periods of change in the last half century. As the system has evolved, so have the key elements and decision makers that determine how care delivery is structured and implemented, payment is effectuated, patients are served, and more. HCANYS believes that in order to effectively carry out our mission and represent the interests of those seeking, receiving, and delivering these services in New York State, we must dollaborate across all sectors and develop and maintain key relationships across the system.
The HCANYS membership comprises Certified Home Health Agencies (CHHAs), Licensed Home Care Services Agencies (LHCSAs), Hospices, Fiscal Intermediaries (FIs), Managed Long Term Care Plans (MLTCs), Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), Long Term Home Health Care Programs (LTHHCPs), and other organizations with vested interest in the delivery of healthcare and support services in homes across New York State.

Membership
From advocacy to education, regulatory interpretation to funding innovative pilots, HCANYS is committed to member service and ensuring they are able to address today’s challenges while being positioned to tackle what’s ahead.
We have been your advocate for essential reimbursement and coverage to combat ill advised cuts and changes in the system and to ensure that the State provides adequate funds to providers and plans to pay for increases in aides’ wages. We collaborate with partner associations to highlight your delivery of complex care in home and communities, or communicate to policymakers about the detrimental impacts of initiatives on staffing and capacity for patient care. We share opportunities to aid your staff in improving their cultural competency and advancing health equity, or improving their infection control and early recognition.

Board
HCANYS Board of Directors is responsible for promoting and implementing a vision and strategic policy direction for the home care industry and the Association. The Board of Directors and HCANYS overall governance structure work efficiently and effectively to provide leadership that guides the direction of HCANYS’ policy, advocacy, educational and overall operational work. When a major new policy development, scenario or problem emerges, you can be assured that HCANYS has worked quickly and thoroughly as a team to gain input, direction, consultation and resolve, where needed, from the industry’s best and brightest field‐level experts on our Board who represent the full continuum of home care programs and regional demographics.
Staff
